This Sunday's Relief Society Lesson was given by Sister Valeri Overmyer. (By the way, I am so sorry I was sick last week and did not get to enjoy Sister Rich's lesson but I heard beautiful things about it and look forward to hearing her lesson next month.) The lesson was on Sacrament Meeting and the Sacrament. We were reminded that Sacrament Meeting is the only weekly church meeting when our whole family can be together. The Music, Talks, and the Ordinance of the Sacrament all contribute to this meeting.
We were exhorted to heed the following:
- Prepare to be there
- Come with a broken heart and a contrite spirit
- Be early
- Dress properly
- Concentrate on worship, not other things
- Be worthy to take the Sacrament.
Two great quotes: "Each member... bears responsibility for the Spiritual enrichment that can come from a sacrament meeting."Elder Nelson
"Some of the greatest sermons are preached by the singing of hymns."
Sister Tolk bore her testimony of how hymns are an important aspect of feeling the Spirit at church. One of the highlights of the lesson was the reminder of Brother Nunley's recitation of the Sacrament prayer. He spoke each word deliberately and with passion, truly speaking a prayer to Heavenly Father. What a beautiful, humble way to help us remember how sacred the Sacrament ordinance is.
Thank you Sister Overmyer for a beautiful lesson.
